Every exhibition our class has had so far which is 3 in total, I have took role of planning, giving out assigned jobs, making contacts for it to take place and then of course doing every ones job since no one ends up doing them.
For example for the end of year show we met up as a group twice before, the first time giving out jobs and what needs to be done, the second time for people to show that they have done the assigned jobs and chance to make sure everything is sorted.
We had a spare week after too, so if jobs weren’t done, people were able to do them before the launch week.
Jobs which were assigned were getting wine and nibbles which was my job as it has been for the past other exhibitions and getting in contact with radio stations so we could be broadcasted on air.
Other jobs was sorting out music, comment sheets, contacting existing photographers to invite, making a poster to advertise, poster to advertise the portrait business which we will have running for September, make a Facebook group, get frames sorted so we are all matching and then have an email with the flyer included and about us and our course to invite businesses.
Of course these jobs weren’t done other than mine, getting the frames, making a Facebook group and poster for advertisement. However the job assigned to the person to make the poster put incorrect information on so we asked for another, then was spelt incorrectly so another class mate had to make one. I found this quite annoying as it proves there was no effort put into his assigned job or it would have had the correct information or even spelt right.
Any way of course I ended up doing the other jobs such as contact sheets, music and sending an email out.
Another thing that really really made my blood boil was the fact of the poster needed to be done for the launch night to advertise the portrait business so guests could acknowledge it and tell others. However it wasn’t done, I specifically said all jobs needed to be done for launch night, and when it came to the exhibition I asked were the poster was, the answer I got back was, “ it just needs to be printed out” I didn’t really understand why it wasn’t printed out for the launch night however I thought well at least we will have it for Wednesday’s art walk.
Well surprisingly it wasn’t done, in fact this certain person didn’t even turn up for the exhibition at all, and the excuse about the poster was that all the classes pictures which was meant to go on it got lost, however I thought the poster was already done and just needed printed. So poster wasn’t done at all never mind being in time so I’m not best of please about that!
So moving back onto the subject, myself and two other classmates are arranging our very own exhibition for the summer since I did the majority of the jobs anyway I thought why have one for the whole class when they don’t help out but get credit, I find it very unfair.
With only the three of us running the exhibition it will be easier to communicate, get on with things and we know that the jobs will be done.
So hopefully it will be a success and much better than the group exhibition.
