To help me improve with my work and move on as an individual I took a variety of tests which were able to tell me what my learning styles are, strengths and weaknesses.
After doing this test I have identified my learning style as Auditory.
Auditory learners remember best what they hear and say themselves. They enjoy class discussions, easily distracted by noise and they need to talk through new learning.
I feel that this is an accurate learning style for me as I agree with the points.
Also auditory people talk to themselves aloud, which I do. Enjoys talking, being read to and listening to music which I also agree with.
I also did test to asses my strengths and weaknesses. By knowing my strengths and weaknesses is the first step to improving my performance. After doing this test I found that my strengths are my ability to research and good information processing, using ICT effectively and assertiveness. However my weaknesses are that I am not good at coping with stress such as I don’t make time to relax during stressful times as I feel I need to get it done there and then also I don’t do well with the pressure of exams, another weakness is managing time such as revision, I am a very organised person however if I were to make a revision timetable I wouldn’t stick to it, I also allow myself to become distracted because if I don’t want to do the work I find any excuse not to do it, such as cleaning my room or going off for a break and not coming back to the work and delaying it, so if I were to improve on my revision I would take less breaks so I couldn’t allow myself to get more distracted.
After doing the tests to work out my learning styles and strengths and weaknesses I did another to indentify which side of the brain I use the most. After answering questions such as “Do you like well-structured assignments or open-ended assignments?” and circling one of the answers I found out I use the right side of my brain the most.
The right side of your brain processes information holistically. If you use holistic processing you generally look at the whole picture when taking on a task. Based on the goal, the details become clear later.
People who use the right side of their brain are more prone to "gut-feelings." The right side of your brain uses speculation more than reason and hard facts when confronted with a choice.
The right side of your brain processes information in a random manner instead of in sequential order like the left side of the brain.
Information is backed up in the right side of the brain through images, so a right-brained person is more likely to remember reading something instead of hearing someone mention the same information.
Creativity generally comes from the right side of the brain. Unfortunately, this leads to trouble retaining hard facts and perceiving consequences.
After learning these facts about myself I am now able to take it into practise such as using the outcomes of being Auditory and using them to help me study, with knowing my learning style I am then able to take it into account and it might help me to overcome my weaknesses.
Another one of obvious weakness is my grammar; normally I would type or write things out, get my grammar checked by another person then re-write it. To help myself move on and make it no longer a weakness is to use more time to read over, and to use correct grammar by comparing my work when it’s been corrected then hopefully learn and write in the correct style.
