I chose to take pictures of the candles in a bathroom, my auntie's bathroom actually.
One of the reasons as to why I wanted to do this as I had an idea of taking pictures of floating candles so I thought a bathroom would be ideal, as baths and candles are both seen as a sign of relaxing.
I had to make these shots look like a product shot, however this is very difficult when the candle doesn’t have the product name on it so it just looks like another photograph of a candle.
So learning from this, next time I would buy candles which had a printed name on the product.
To do this shoot, I only used the light created by the candle flame, I experimented with longer exposure, and then I used the flash to see how different the lighting would be from a warm tone from the candle flame to a bright cool tone.
To have pictures of tea lights floating in the bath seemed quite boring to me, so to make it more interesting I added other candles within the shot and ran the tap on the bath on a few as well, I felt that this gave my images more depth as the photo carries on after the candles and a nice background is created. I had great difficulty with the floating candles as when I would try move them, from the water they would get put out, or they would all move in there own separate ways.
I enjoyed doing this shot but with taking pictures of candles you have limited time before the wax ends up melting, however with them being scented the bathroom smelt lovely at the end of the shoot.
