Dancers

We have been given a task to photograph students on the HND dance course. The pictures go into a portfolio for them to show to universities or potential agents and is designed to show the skills they have.
I really enjoyed this task, I’d say my favourite out of the others, as I want to work with people in my future job and this was a great experience.
I had four dancers in total, two which were in their first year and two which were in their second. So I had different experienced dancers, different styles and looks about them, which made this task very interesting.
We had to take pictures in different areas to experiment such as the studio, on location and the dance hall. My first two dancers were in their second year so they was much more experienced as they had the same task done for them the year before, so they knew exactly what they wanted which was helpful and they could guide me if they wanted anything done in a particular way. We only had a hour each in the studio and because I had to set up the lighting as I was the first person in, it gave me less time for my dancers which I found a challenge, however I feel like I overcome that by just getting on with it and it really helped the fact the dancers knew what they needed to be photographed. We went to the woods to photograph the location shoots, the sun was out and it was a nice day which was great for the shoot and I got them to do a dance together so I could get them in action. In the dance hall with it being later on it was quite dark so I had to use my flash.
With the experience from that shoot, the following week I had the first year dancers to photograph, I also had to do studio, location and dance hall work with them too. With them not being as experienced with dance as the other two, there pictures seemed to be more fashion like instead of dancy such as the others. However I’m very impressed with some of my pictures and really enjoyed working with my models, I thought this was a great experience and I have learnt from looking at my pictures and how I should approach this in the future.
